Talking on the Phone while Shopping

Talking on the Phone while Shopping

By the time I turned the corner of an aisle at the store, I had fully concluded that the voice I was hearing was from a lawyer, who passionately detailed her reasons for not taking a case. It wasn’t difficult or deliberate to figure out from what she was saying; she wasn’t soft-spoken. I thought “Is her voice always this loud”? That I would never know. But in that instance it was. If the person who was being discussed had been in the store, they most likely would have known that they were the object of the conversation, given how explicit the details were. So much for client-attorney privilege – wink wink.

Masks kind of force us all to increase our volume a bit, and perhaps that was the case here. However, it’s safer to be discreet and keep our business dealings outside public spaces in order to protect the subject matter, as in this case.

Conducting business on the phone when shopping is never a good practice.
