“Outside is open”
I giggled to myself when I read the City’s digital sign that read, “Outside is open.” Then my heart leaped for joy at the realization that we were being encouraged to step outside and enjoy the fresh air while keeping our distance.
Now with more of “Outside is open,” a family being able to enjoy the playground adds a sweeter appreciation of what I’ve always taken for granted. Joni Mitchell said it well when she sang, “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” Just recently, with a lawn chair in hand, I met up with a friend for a relaxing afternoon of laughter and catching up at beautiful Henderson Park. I observed that other people had the same idea as well. The playground was buzzing with kids playing and parents assisting or just keeping an eye on their children. There was no denying that most of us appreciated being outside.
As we continue to enjoy the “outside” within our communities, let us be aware and respectful of other people’s personal space.
