The Art of Conversation
The art of conversation remains the same in whatever medium we are conversing through. The origin of the word “converse” is rooted in the meaning of “moving together,” similar to dancing. Conversations (think dancing with words) can be informative, intellectual or simply social. Someone might be put off when a social conversation turns into something more technically detailed or deeply philosophical. Imagine dancing a flowing Viennese waltz, and suddenly your partner begins stomping a war-like Maori Haka.
Similarly, conversations that abruptly change will confuse and disengage participants. We all know when we or someone else is distracted or disinterested in a conversation, whether in-person or through video or text. Once realizing this, etiquette dictates a polite conclusion until next time.
